You might remember from my previous post about the Arizona Renaissance Festivalthat it ends 3.29 for 2015. I had mentioned in that post that I had been attending the festival for as long as I can remember. I am happy to report that I found a photo from what I think is 1991! Talk about memories. I found a few really great photos. Turkey legs! Drinking from the stein! Watching the amazing shows with flowers in my hair! That’s what it’s all about!
Me & my friends 1991’ish!
I was excited to take my boys. My older boy had only been as a baby. With dreams of jousting, swords and ye old means of torture they were also excited to go. The one thing I would say if you are heading out to the Renaissance Festival is to pack your patience and manners. The highway goes down to two lanes outside of town and traffic was pretty heavy. Not everyone seemed to take this is stride. We had tickets so we walked right in through the main gate. Others were in quite a long line to purchase tickets. I would highly suggest getting them ahead of time. I would also suggest bringing cash. We knew we would get a LOT of “Mom, can I please have that!!??” so we gave the kids a pre-set budget. **They bought battle axes with their money.** Don’t forget: Receive One Free Child ticket Per Coupon with One Full Price Adult Ticket Purchased at the Festival Gate. Coupon valid at the 2015 Festival Box Office only. NOT VALID in conjunction with a FRYS discount ticket or any other discount offer. Not for resale. One coupon per person. My boys really loved the Wyld Men show! I mean who would’nt. Mud, Mud, more mud and laughs! The husband had to see Dead Bob. And I just wanted to taste my way through the village! There is so much to do now that it is almost turning into something that requires multiple visits.
Thank goodness we brought sunblock! It was hot. The boys ran through some misters to cool down. We also sat in the shade of shows or trees as often as possible. From all my years going I am keen on planning for any kind of weather. I have been freezing, burning, wind blown, rained on and I think once all of those in one day. I keep layers in the car and pack a small back pack with various hair ties, a hat, sunblock and most important baby wipes.
It seems like every time I go they have added more and made improvements. The bathrooms are WAY better than they were back in the day. This has always been one of my favorite Arizona events. I hope you get a chance to get out there before they pack it up for the year. Then we will have to wait until 2016 to see them again.
